Uuliastai


There is no way to tell you about Uuliastai except to show it to you, so this is a long notebook with a short introduction. Located between mountains at the confluence of two rivers, Uuliastai has the feel of a much larger, older city than Khovd. Even though it has lots of abandoned factories at the southern edge of town, it still seems vibrant and colorful.

It's an unusual way to mark the center of one of the coldest towns in Mongolia. Unless I am reading it wrong, it looks very much like a giant treble hook with lions and an eagle. It is flanked by artificial palm trees.
